Yom HaShoa
KSDS commemorated the Holocaust Memorial Day through moving services and ceremonies. The victims and the survivors were honored through words, songs, and pictures.
In Lower School, Grade 4 students led a short memorial program to mark the day. The content included a brief overview of the Holocaust and the story of one man, Yanus Korczak, a famous Polish Jew who cared for and protected Jewish orphans in the Warsaw Ghetto. The program included appropriate songs and slides. After the program, each class lit a memorial candle, and there were age-appropriate discussions in each classroom. Thank you to Ann Berman, Daniela Eyal, Rivka Gamliel, Bracha Lang, and Ina Krief.
Through its annual ceremony, KSMS remembered the tragedy of the Holocaust. As a part of the program, eighth graders recited their original poetry written in Hebrew and English, Hazzan Perlman chanted K'El Moleh Rachamim, and several speakers shared their own experiences of the holocaust or those of their family members. (For more details see the Middle School Happenings page.) We wish to thank our special guests Katherine Lyons, dramatist and storyteller, Molly, Leslie, and Ryan from St. Mark Church School, and our speakers Bluma Shapiro, survivor Auschwitz, Dr. Randy Lake, Mrs. Shirley Kollin, and Mrs.Heller Kreshtool, children of survivors.
