2024-2025 KSDS Dress Code

KSDS Dress Code for 2024-2025

Tops (including outer layer sweatshirts to be worn indoors) shall be KSDS branded with the current KSDS logo and must be purchased from the KSDS school store. As of April 1, 2024, all clothing items on the KSDS school store are dress code approved.

Tops may not be altered or doctored (i.e. no rips, cuts, or changes of any type to the original shirt/sweatshirt).

  • All students are required to purchase at least one KSDS polo in gray (short sleeve or long sleeve) with the KSDS logo to be used for field trips and other designated days.
    • You will find youth polo sizes under kids shirts and adult sizes under adult polos.
    • Ample notice will be provided regarding days when students are required to wear this shirt. Of course, we always invite students to wear polos on any school day.

Bottoms must be solid color without rips, frayed edges or holes.

Bottoms may not be shorter than 3” above the knee (strictly enforced for all students).

Examples of permitted bottoms include solid colored shorts, pants, skorts, skirts, capris, and twill pants. Uniformstyle jogger pants are permitted in nylon/polyester only. The following links may be helpful when searching for permitted bottoms (and are examples of approved clothing)

Clothing not permitted includes jumpers, jeans, jean shorts, jean skirts, pajamas, sweatpants, flannel, fleece, mesh, yoga pants, tutus, non-uniform-style jogger pants/athletic wear and leggings by themselves. An example of prohibited non-uniform style jogger pants include these.

  • Solid colored leggings are permitted as tights under a skirt, or skort, as long as the skirt or skort meets the length requirement.
  • Knee-high-length socks are not permitted. Regular socks, ankle-length or standard-length can be patterned or multi-colored.
  • Hats and hoods may not be worn indoors during the school day.
  • For safety, students must wear closed-toe and closed-heel shoes. Crocs, even with the heel band in place, and Ugg slip-ons with a low back are not permitted. Wheeled shoes are prohibited.
  • Makeup and face tattoos / face glitter is not permitted.
  • Costumes are not permitted (except on Purim or as otherwise noted by the school i.e. spirit day).
  • Accessories affixed to clothing or worn separately on the body (i.e. cat ears, attached tails, purses) are not permitted.
    • Watches, earrings and other jewelry worn separately on the body are permitted.

Dress Down Days:  The school may announce casual/dress down days. On designated casual attire days, clothing must adhere to the general guidelines (i.e. no rips, holes or frayed edges, not more than 3” above the knee), and clothing may not display any inappropriate language or images. Shirts must cover shoulders and midriff. For example, tank tops, low-cut shirts, and sleeveless athletic shirts are not permitted.

Gym uniform:  KSDS does not require uniforms for gym classes.

For the Class of 2025 (next year’s 8th graders)

The Class of 2025 is permitted to dress down every Monday. This includes, but is not limited to, swag from a B’nei Mitzvah. Please see above for all dress-down rules. Students who are in repeated violation of the dress down policy will lose dress down privileges and will be required to return to the current K-8 dress code for the balance of the school year.

For the Class of 2026 (next year’s 7th graders)

7th grade students are permitted to wear B’nei Mitzvah swag on the first school day following a KSDS student B’nei mitzvah. The remainder of the outfit for that school day must adhere to the current KSDS dress code (i.e. if the swag is bottoms, the top must still be KSDS store clothing).

Students who are in repeated violation of the dress down policy will lose dress down privileges and will be required to return to the current K-8 dress code for the balance of the school year.

Violations of the dress code policy:

Lower School: Administration or faculty will contact parents, requesting that appropriate clothing be brought to school.

Middle School: Students will be asked to call home for replacement clothing.

If replacement clothing is not available by 10:00am, then the school will provide dress code-appropriate clothing.
