Teen Immigrants Visit 6th and 7th Grades
This past Thursday, eighteen ESOL students from Patterson High School visited Krieger Schechter. Hari and Bhola, Bhutanese refugees who lived in Nepal, Lisbeth from the Dominican Republic, and Marvin from the Philippines shared personal stories with the 6th and 7th graders. They spoke about life in their native countries, and their lives now in the United States. The middle school students beautifully shared detailed appreciations and asked thoughtful questions of our visitors. This program added a personal connection to the 6th grade study of world cultures and the 7th grade unit on immigration. The Student Immigration Stories Project is co-sponsored by the Jewish Museum of Maryland and Baltimore City Public Schools and was facilitated by Jennifer Zunikoff, a KSDS parent and professional storyteller.
