Skype with Israel – It’s a Small World After All

Our fourth graders  had the opportunity to learn about the Japanese story-telling format called Kamishibai. A group of 15 fourth graders elected to be part of our Kamishibai Hebrew enrichment program. Over the course of the school year, these students met weekly during recess and exchanged drawings and written Hebrew compositions with students from an elementary school in the Aravah region of Israel (south of the Dead Sea, on the Jordanian border). The students met and spoke to one another via Skype. As a culminating activity, students in each country created their own Kamishibai stories and shared via Skype. The students and teachers were excited for the opportunity that technology provided them to engage with students in Israel, using the language that they have in common, Hebrew!
