KSDS Hosts Parent Education Seminar on Executive Function

Krieger Schechter Day School invites parents of K – 8 students to join us for an informative parent seminar featuring Executive Function expert, Dr. Elana G. Spira. This event is complimentary and open to the community. RSVP below.

Executive function is the ability to organize, plan and execute a set of tasks in an efficient manner. It’s critical for learning and development and crucial for life-long success.

For many children and parents, staying on top of homework and long-term projects is a never-ending battle. Difficulties with tracking assignments, managing materials, time management and planning are often a major source of conflict at home and lead to missed assignments and underachievement in school. In this workshop for parents, Dr. Elana Spira provides tips on how parents can optimize home routines, work collaboratively with schools, and engage children in planning and managing their time for school assignments and projects.

Elana G. Spira, PhD, is Clinical Assistant Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Child Study Center of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at New York University (NYU) Langone Health. She is coauthor of Organizational Skills Training for Children with ADHD: An Empirically Supported Treatment (for mental health professionals) and The Organized Child: An Effective Program to Maximize Your Kid’s Potential—in School and in Life (for parents), and participated in developing and testing the Organizational Skills Training program. Dr. Spira specializes in evidence-based assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with ADHD and behavior disorders.
