Krieger Schechter Cares
As our Lower School Head Faye Pollack has always described us, “Krieger Schechter is the school of caring and sharing.” One only has to see our Lower School tzedakah program to see this in action. The program in the Lower School is run by our third graders under the guidance of the third grade teachers. Each trimester a different 3rd grade class takes charge of the Friday morning collection and counting of tzedakah brought in by our students. Elissa Hellman, the faculty tzedakah chair, along with other faculty members, selects a number of diverse philanthropic organizations as recipients. On Monday mornings when grades K-4 come together for t’fillah (prayer), representatives from these organizations have the opportunity to come and receive the check in person and explain to our students how their generosity makes a difference in the world.
