Grade 3 Tastes “Biblical Lentil Soup”
Our third grade Judaic Studies classes recently read the Humash story about how Jacob bought the birthright from Esau for a bowl of lentil soup and bread. This sale enabled Jacob to become the leader of the family upon the death of Isaac. In class, the students discussed which qualities would make a good family leader at the time in which our biblical patriarchs and matriarchs lived. As part of a recent Kabbalat Shabbat activity, our third graders had the opportunity to eat lentil soup and challah “tasting” the story of our forefathers.
