Krieger Schechter’s Half Day of Giving on Wednesday, November 26, was a tremendous success. During that morning all students took part in service projects, both inside the building (six service projects in-house done by our Lower School students) and out in our community (with our Middle School students visiting 3 different Weinberg facilities and weatherizing the homes of local seniors through CHAI’s Adopt-a-Neighbor Program). Here’s a quick recap of the day by the numbers:
-52 parent and grandparent volunteers
-6 service projects in house
-3 Weinberg facilities with several grateful residents
-15 trays of cookies and sweets delivered to first responders
-400 lunches made for Helping Up Mission
-10 CHAI Adopt-a-Neighbor clients with homes weatherized and yard work completed by our volunteers (students, teachers and parents)
-40 caterpillar magnets for Meals on Wheels clients
-25 tissue paper flower vases for Eating Together Program
-30 flower pots decorated for CHAI Adopt-a-Neighbor program
-30+ decorated placemats for Meals on Wheels clients
-Dozens of home-made cookies and cards sent overseas to support our troops.
Everyone found it immensely rewarding to take time out before the Thanksgiving break and give back to our community. The students left the building that day with a true sense of what it means to humbly serve others.
