8th Grade First Day Minyan – a special prayer service

On the first day of school, it is tradition for 8th graders to gather as a group for a special opening tefillah (prayer service). Dr. Schneider presented each student with his or her own pocket siddur, which that student will use throughout the school year and then take on the 8th Grade Israel trip. Following this presentation, 8th graders davened together, looking at some of the prayers through the lens of their previous 8 years at KSDS. Students talked about the places in the school building that make them feel “mah tovu” – how good it is to be in that place, and used the acrostic letters of the Ashrei prayer to reflect on special memories from each of their K-7th grade years.
