4th Grade Copper Embossing – An Integrated Project

In conjunction with both their Humash and Hanukkah studies, our 4th grade Judaic Studies classes merged the symbolism of the burning bush with the custom of designing commemorative coins, which was prevalent during the time of the Maccabees. Each child created their own symbol on pencil and paper, and then using an embossing stylus transferred their symbol onto thin copper plating. A dark stain was then applied to give the copper an antiqued appearance.
