Students Donate 43 Food-Filled Backpacks to Baltimore City Schools

In keeping with our commitment to tikkun olam, the second graders at Krieger Schechter Day School participated in the Weekend Backpack Program on January 23, 2017.

Working with our partner, Sandie Nagel, students packed food into 43 backpacks that will be sent to two Baltimore City schools: Tench Tilghman Elementary/Middle School and Collington Square Elementary/Middle School.

These two schools provide their students, many of whom are homeless, with a breakfast, hot lunch and fruit during the day and supply them with a sandwich before they leave each afternoon. Many of these children, however, remain hungry during the weekend with little access to food. The backpacks that Krieger Schechter students assemble, provide enough food to last these less fortunate children and their families the entire weekend.

Community involvement is an important aspect of the Krieger Schechter education and we are excited to be able to support these schools again in March with a second backpack delivery.
