3rd Graders Study Remarkable Women
Our third graders have been studying famous women this fall as part of an integrated unit in language arts, reading, art and social studies. Two of the women studied are Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller. This week, the students were treated to a visit from Mrs. Melissa Riccobono. Mrs. Riccobono, a blind woman, shared with the children the ways that she is able to be remarkably independent with the help of braille, technology, a guide dog and a cane. During Mrs. Riccobono’s visit, the children had the opportunity to try to “read” some of the very same children’s books that Mrs. Riccobono reads to her own children.
