Application Procedures

Kindergarten through 4th Grade

Kindergarten and 1st Grade are our biggest entry years, but our school invites families to apply through 8th Grade.

Your future kindergartener should be five years old by September 1 of the year you wish him or her to enter. The Admission Director will work closely with families whose children have birthdays between September 1 and December 31 to determine potential readiness for Kindergarten.

The procedure for applying for Lower School admission is as follows:

  1. Make an appointment with the Director of Admission, Ilene Wise, to tour the KSDS facility and to observe classes.
  2. Send in the application with a $50 application fee (of which $25 is a non-refundable processing fee) along with a $150 non-refundable evaluation fee. You may mail the application prior to your campus visit.
  3. Sign the Transcript Release Form. Request records and the Common Referral Form from your current pre-school or school to be sent to the KSDS Admission Office.
  4. KSDS will contact you to set up an evaluation with our school psychologist.
  5. Our school psychologist administers the WPPSI-III or WISC-IV evaluation at KSDS. The evaluation takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. You may remain with your child during the introductory phase, until your child feels comfortable in the test setting. You will receive written feedback within a few weeks.
  6. If your child is applying for Kindergarten or 1st Grade, he or she will be scheduled for an informal, small-group observation, conducted by KSDS teachers. The observation lasts approximately one hour. You have the opportunity to meet with school administrators, teachers and the Director of Admission during the observation period.
  7. You will be notified of the Admission Committee's decision by February 15, the common reply date for AIMS Schools.
  8. You will notify the Admission Office of your decision to accept placement by March 7, 2012.
  9. Requests for financial aid are directed to the Admission Office. Completed applications for financial aid are due by mid-February.

5th or 6th Grade

Our Hebrew and Judaic studies bridge program makes it possible to apply to KSDS in Grade 5 or Grade 6 from a school other than a Jewish day school. Please contact Ilene Wise, Director of Admission, with other questions about applying to KSDS Middle School.

  3. Sign the Transcript Release Form. Request records and two Common Referral Forms (for English and Math) from your current school to be sent to the KSDS Admission Office.
  4. Your child takes the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). The Admission Testing fee is paid at the time of testing. Testing is Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 8:30 a.m.
  5. Your child visits KSDS. Visiting day is scheduled by the Admission Office.
  6. Your child interviews with the Director of Admission. The interview is scheduled by the Admission Office.
