The Middle School Curriculum
The Krieger Schechter Middle School strives for a synthesis and appreciation of both Jewish and American cultures, following a curriculum that brings together the values of the Jewish and general communities. It is our desire to foster the development of each student’s love of learning as he/she moves through pre-adolescent stages of life. Academic excellence and responsible independence are goals students are encouraged to seek.
Because there are a variety of unique adolescent issues with which to deal, a crucial portion of the program includes a forum for each youngster to develop critical and analytical thinking skills and individual expression in each discipline.
The concept of kedushah is an organizing principle throughout our school’s curriculum. We aim to provide our students with an understanding that the Jewish ethics and values originate in our covenant with God. This includes our desire to behave with honor toward other human beings. Our respect for our teachers, parents, and each other emanates from our acceptance of the holiness of all people.
While much of this is taught through an integrated curriculum, it does imply acceptance of Ol Malkhut Shamayim—the acceptance of responsibility of mitzvot related to Tikkun Olam and Gemilut Hassadim, in addition to mitzvot related to Torah study and ritual worship and observance.
